Forget about Gorilla Glass – that seems to be hyped up technology that still fails to prevent cracks on your smartphone’s display when you experience a sudden case of butterfingers (because you were too cheap to pay for a protective case made out of rubber, hence your sweaty palms causing you to be the cause of such a slip). Sonim knows that phones can be hardier – and it would be best if they were, hence the company has introduced the Sonim XP3300 Force.
Just what makes the Sonim XP3300 Force so different that it has been officially certified to be the “World’s Toughest Phone” by the Guinness World Records hall of fame? Well, you can always check out the video of it falling onto concrete from a really impressive height (25 meters, no less!) after the jump, but we will look at the specifications of the Sonim XP3300 Force in further detail in the extended post.
Boasting IP-68 certification, it can remain submerged for up to an hour as long as the depth does not exceed 2 meters, while the external speaker remains protected by a waterproof GORE protective vent to make sure you can still send soundwaves underwater to a school of fish, introducing them to Led Zep and The Doors. When it comes to MIL-810G certification, the Sonim XP3300 Force will outstrip them all with salt, fog, humidity, transport shock, and thermal shock resistant.
To make sure it can handle all the knocks it receives in life, the handset features hardened rubber molded that has been to a Fiberglass casing mix by dual injection, being rated to 2 meter drops onto concrete from any angle without nary a scratch. It is also shock resistant up to 4G, and will work in a temperature range of -20 degree Celcius to +55 degree Celcius.
You get a 2″ display though, which isn’t too hot if you’ve been extremely used to large touchscreen displays on most modern smartphones, but at least this still has a 2-megapixel camera with LED flash to capture memories of your adventure, not to mention a microSD memory card slot, an integrated FM radio, Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, GPS support, alongside waterproof headset and USB data ports.
Not exactly packing in the latest specs, but it sure as heck is worth looking into if you’re one who regularly cracks your phone’s screen, Gorilla Glass or not.
