Here's How to Use Our Updated DesignHi! So you might notice that Gizmodo looks a teensy bit different today. Back at HQ, we’ve been calling this project the Open Design, and it’s all about making the site easier to read and navigate.

The main difference is that you can choose whether you want the entire site to scroll as one unified pane, or whether you’d like the sidebar—the stream of stories on the right-hand side of your page—to scroll independently, as it has for the past few months.

So go ahead, take her for a spin. Right now, the two panes are going to scroll independently. But if you click the little icon in the upper-right-hand corner (follow the blue arrow in the image above), you will lock the sidebar to the movement of the rest of the page. And don’t worry—you don’t have to do this every time you come back; we’ll remember your choice.

Oh, and blog view still works, so you can see the site as a single scrolling page if you prefer. You get to it the same way as before, but, since I love making little arrowed screencaps with Skitch, I’m just gonna throw one of those in for good measure:
