Pat Robertson, Horny Confused Beetles Recognized at Ig Nobel AwardsThis year’s Ig Nobel awards lacked the gas mask brassieres and whale snot breakthroughs that made them so charming in the past, but that doesn’t mean the most recent batch was a letdown.

No way. Onto the images of economist Paul Krugman wearing a bra on his face and sneezing whales we can now pile topics like why a certain type of beetle gets confused by dark beer bottles and attempts to mate with them (“Beetles on the Bottle: Male Buprestids Mistake Stubbies for Females”); and how the intensity of one’s need to pee can affect the decision-making process.

Even whack job Pat Robertson was awarded some Ig Nobel recognition this year. For his failed 1982 end-of-the-world prediction, Robertson received the mathematics prize for “teaching the world to be careful when making mathematical assumptions and calculations.” [CNET]
