This 9 1/2 Foot Eagle is Remote Controlled

What you are looking at is something that I would file under “seasonal toy”. Yes, someone did make a remote control toy that is the United States national bird, and didn’t put it out when it would sell the most, around the 4th of July.

This bald eagle has a 9 1/2 foot wingspan, and my Source calls this “a glorified kite”. It has an electric motor on it that is mounted on a gimbal that can steer the eagle, and it does come with a multi-channel remote which requires eight AA batteries.

This remote only has a range of 100 feet, and the electronic pack on it is only good for 8 minutes of flight with a 200 minute charge. That does not sound like it would last long in the air, and I don’t know how long it would last with a freak wind going on. According to the catalog, it has a hover-in-place mode that works against the wind.

By the way, it costs a pretty high price of $499.95, which seems to me a little too high. Then again, this product is from Hammacher Schlemmer, a company that is known for making some pretty quality electronic goods. I figured that they wouldn’t put something like this out unless it was worth your money.
